Calabar capture ISSA Under-19 basketball title

DEFENDING champions Calabar High retained their title in the 2015/2016 Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/Southern Basketball Conference Urban High Schoolboys best-of-three finals at the National Indoor Sports Centre (NISC) Tuesday, February 2, 2016 beating Camperdown High 59-55.

No doubt Camperdown was a worthy opponent and made the game difficult for Calabar for the first three quarters. However, they did not make good on their turn overs had gave away too may fouls. This allowed Calabar to sneak in a win in the last minute of the game.

Kudos to Maliek McCarthy who was voted most valuable player for this season. He was the key player on the team with 20 points and 13 rebounds and brought home the trophy with a very supportive team. Jehvaun Faulder with 22 points and 7 rebounds and Gavin Francis with 8 points and 12 rebounds rounded out the top scorers. Ludloo Barker, coach of Calabar, was named the champion coach of the season.

The team is now focused on the All-Island Championship play-off where Calabar are the defending champions in both the Under-16 and Under-19 sections.
