Calabar High School

"The Utmost for the Highest"

Vashil Fernandez; A Calabar Lion joins the HEATS NBA Team

Vashil, a Calabar past student  lives one line in Calabar’s school song that says, “ sworn to be reknowned and famous” . He is on his “course from the source” and to his “wider life to be”.

A 6 foot 10 wonder boy, Vasil was signed to the Miami HEATS on October 17. He is formally from Valparaiso University and has an impressive record of all-time leading shot blocker averaging 4.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.21 blocks and 19.8 minutes while shooting 54.8 percent in 131 games (85 starts) in college.

He also led the NCAA in blocks per game (3.31) and was named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Fernandez averaged 5.6 points and 7.3 rebounds, and took just 4.6 shots per game last season.

He is a young man from honest and humble beginnings, who started playing basketball at age 17. He played basket ball while he was at Calabar. No doubt a force to be reckoned with on the team.
